As many of you know, CAISA Fashion Show works extremely hard throughout the year to put together one of the most anticipated student-charity fashion shows in Canada. Every year, CAISA Fashion Show commits to fundraising for a charity in hopes to better the lives of individuals within the London community. For the past 14 years, CAISA Fashion Show has had the most rewarding opportunity to support the Children’s Health Foundation (CHF), a non-profit organization that funds to support the Children’s Hospital in London. This year, we will be continuing to support the Children’s Health Foundation and we are proud to announce that the area we will be raising funds for is Personalized Medicine Research.
What is personalized medicine and how will it change the lives of the children?
Currently, the standard dosing practices dictate that every patient receives an average dose. This means that children with the same illness receive the same treatment plan. However, because every child’s genetic makeup is different, their ability to tolerate medications will also be different. In some cases, there is a ten-fold variation between how the same dose will affect two different people. This means that 1 in 10 children being treated for paediatric cancers are at risk for extreme toxicity that may lead to emergency hospitalization.
With your support, children will have the potential to receive individualized drug doses specific to them and that will protect them from their illnesses without further complications.
Over the past years we have raised over $200,000 for CHF and we hope to raise enough funds this year for Personalized Medicine Research to give our region’s kids the best possible chance to pursue brighter futures free from childhood illnesses.
Help us meet our goal and donate today!
