Pantone’s Colour Institute recently announced the 2017 Color of the Year. If you didn’t know, the “Color of the Year” is “a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.”
This year, Pantone has chosen Greenery (Pantone 15-0343).
According to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone’s Color Institute, Greenery is meant to “provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment” and “symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.” Emphasizing nature and the great outdoors, Greenery is a symbol of rejuvenation, revitalization, and vitality.
This versatile and trans-seasonal shade can be paired with a variety of colours from neutrals to metallics to pastels, including Rose Quartz and Serenity, Pantone’s 2016 Colors of the Year. You can definitely be expecting to see many of these colour combinations this year, not only in fashion, but also in beauty, graphic designs, and product applications.
Pantone has released a Fashion Color Report in conjunction with New York Fashion Week announcing 9 other top colours for Spring 2017 fashion. In addition to Greenery, these colours evoke “a spectrum of emotion and feeling”. Here is the Spring colour palette you can expect to see in NYFW and other global shows, as well as fashion retailers this year :
