While Vivienne Westwood is known to be a global brand and national treasure for the UK, it was the designer’s debut at the London Men’s Fashion Week this past Monday.
Known for her environmental campaigning, Westwood’s passion for the planet shone through her designs that carried a DIY aesthetic, showcased by a plastic knife that had been turned into an earring.
Mohair pieces, rips and tears completed Westwood and her design partner, Andreas Kronthalers’ punk heritage.
The collection, titled Ecotricity, highlighted Westwood’s passion for environmentalism and politics and how it is reflected in her work within the fashion industry. The clothes, laden with anti-climate change slogans and handmade paper crowns showcased Westwood’s desire to integrate the importance of environmentalism into her designs.
“What’s good for the planet is good for the economy/whats badd for the planet is bad for the economy.” , according to the show notes. Westwood certainly seems to agree.
