Demna Gvaslia’s menswear collection at this year’s Paris Fashion Week was inspired by “the subject of corporate dressing” – it was noted in the show’s notes that the recent move of Balenciaga’s studio and its parent company’s headquarters inspired the new take on officewear. The design team was inspired to create a “reading of contemporary reality, spanning the formal and casual, aimed at the breadth of an intergenerational audience.”
The collection indeed stayed true to the team’s vision: traditional suits in grays, browns and blacks walked the runway. But so did looks with t-shirts over flannels over sweatshirts – an adventurous experiment on layering on behalf of the Balenciaga team.
Aside from clothing, Balenciaga took the opportunity to display several of its men’s bag styles, new mock shopping bags, and a new men’s sneaker collection.
The most notable looks at Balenciaga’s show on Wednesday were the ones featuring designs nearly (and oddly) identical to Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign logo. The design, recognized as Balenciaga’s new logo, was included in many of the brand’s jackets, pins, and shawls.
