Guo Pei is much more than a Chinese fashion designer. Known for designing Rihanna’s iconic 2015 Met Ball gown, she is recognized by Time as one of the World’s Most Influential People. So it’s no surprise that her collection was highly anticipated at Couture Spring 2017.
The “medieval princess” theme was prevalent throughout Guo’s collection yesterday. Lavish, jewelled embroidery and corsets amplified the dramatic and fantastical feel of the show. While some gowns were conceptual – like one with a domed headpiece with the model’s face peeking out – others were more traditional and based on church murals from the St. Gallen Cathedral in Switzerland, in the town where many of the fabrics were made.
