Brian Imanuel, formerly known as Rich Chigga, became viral after releasing his track “Dat $tick” back in 2016. Since then, he has taken the world by storm, just finishing the first leg of his world tour in 2017, and soon moving on to continue his tour in Europe.
Despite gaining even more fame, through collaborations with major artists such as 21 Savage, Diplo, and Keith Ape, many people seem to be unable to look past his controversial name to appreciate his art. He stated “I do regret it — I didn’t really know what I was doing and I definitely did not know people were gonna pop off like this”.
In an attempt to draw attention to his music and not his name, Brian was the epitome of the phrase “New year, new me”, as on January 1, 2018, he released on his social media accounts that he will now go by “Rich Brian”. Following this change, Rich Brian released his most personal song yet “See Me” which he self-produced.
Growing up in Jakarta, Indonesia in a low-middle class family, Brian had humble beginnings, being homeschooled and teaching himself English through YouTube. Hopefully through this change, he is able to go back to those roots and share his art with the world.
