Givenchy debuts its first collection by British designer Clare Waight Keller at Paris Couture Fashion Week 2018. We were wow-ed with sculpted silhouettes and monastic necklines – a more modern approach to traditional couture.
Without a doubt, Givenchy’s Haute Couture collection showcased the mettle of a woman. “I wanted to use the strength of tailoring, but in a feminine way,” said the British designer. After a drastic change from the bohemian-inspired aesthetic that she became renowned for during her six year reign at Chloé, Waight Keller reemerged as the creative genius behind a polished portrayal of luxurious evening wear.
Black and blue were the most prominent colours seen in this collection. Waight Keller talked about being inspired by the idea of a garden at night. “The idea of the moonlight catching the dresses,” she said. Accompanied by the dazzling gold and silver jewelry that catch our eye with slight every movement, Givenchy delivers a modern take on haute couture, with Waight Keller leading the movement.
“For me, couture is an open book,” says the label’s first female artistic director.
