How To Find Your Personal Style

Have you ever heard people say, “I love your clothes,” “Where did you get that top,” “Your style is so nice.” Then you probably have “good style!” However, what is a personal style? A personal style refers to a way on how someone expressed themselves. This can be more than only through clothes, but also through writing and art. “Style” is a personal preference of someone’s aesthetic choices through clothing, accessories, hairstyle and overall the way they put themselves together. Feeling lost in what your style could be? Don’t worry, here are a few tips on how to find your unique style that best suits you!

1. Look in Your Closet

Take a look at your current closet. Figure out which clothes you reach for the most, which make you the happiest, and which have no interest to you at all. Put the liked items out and think about why they make you happy. What about these clothes makes you want to wear it and incorporate it in your style. Notice if they have anything in common with each other. With the clothes you do not gravitate to anymore, donate them to a local charity or clothing drive!

2. Create a Fashion Mood Board

A fashion mood board is a great way to spark inspiration and find what you like! You can mix and match pictures to create different outlooks for different events and what you are comfortable with. To do this, you can search up images on Google or Pinterest. Copy the photos and place them on Microsoft Word or Canva to create a mood board. You can keep this on your computer or print it out if you ever need inspiration for your next shopping spree or outfit!

3. Purchase Some Timeless Pieces

Timeless pieces of clothing are clothes that will never go out of trend. They are basic, fresh, and go with everything. They are usually great for layering and adding an extra something to your outfit. You can create amazing effortless looks with them and would be the foundation of your aesthetic that you can continue to build on. Think of these pieces of wardrobe as an investment in your closet.

4. Push Yourself

If you think all you are doing in your life is working or going to school and you have no excuse to wear a nice outfit, forget about that! An outfit should make you feel confident and happy no matter where you go. Don’t save that outfit for only one special night, wear it whenever you want. Find a good balance between looking appropriate for certain settings and fun for others!
