Top 5 Movies You Should Watch This Holiday Season

It’s that time of the year again when you can snuggle up in your blanket with a hot cup of cocoa and binge-watch Christmas movies! Despite our best efforts to remind ourselves to study hard for our exams, the holiday season is fast, and we can’t help but get excited. Christmas is all about making new memories while cherishing the old. And, as is tradition, here are the top 5 Christmas movies to watch this December to round out the festivities!

Love Hard (2021)

This list kicks off with a Netflix Christmas rom-com! Love Hard, directed by Hernán Jiménez, stars Nina Dobrev, a young lady who finds the perfect match for her on a dating app and decides to travel to his hometown to surprise him for Christmas, only to discover that she has been catfished.

Christmas with the Kranks (2004)

If I could choose which holiday movie to see as an 8-year-old, this would be my first choice every time. Since their daughter is away, the Kranks decide to cancel Christmas completely and instead go on a Caribbean cruise. This doesn’t go as planned when their daughter decides to come home, causing a ruckus when they have to celebrate the holiday at the last minute.

Home Alone (1990)

Home Alone is a Christmas family film that comes as a series. On the way to the airport for a vacation, Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, is mistakenly left behind by his family. He spends the rest of the film defending his home against two con men who are planning a robbery. Despite the film’s comic violence, it has a touching ending that perfectly captures the festive spirit.

A Christmas Prince (2017)

A Christmas Prince, a Netflix Original, follows the story of a young journalist who travels undercover to learn more about a handsome prince but winds up falling in love. This movie takes you on a journey through a love story that will warm your hearts. Due to its success, it has become a series that includes A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby, all of which are available now!

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

It wouldn’t have been right if I didn’t include an animated film, let alone exclude The Nightmare Before Christmas. This film is about Jack Skellington’s discovery outside of Halloween Town and into Christmas Town. A series of events unfold, and you can’t help but fall in love with the cast of characters. Tim Burton’s animation is amazing, and while being from the 1990s, it does not feel out of date; rather it adds to the nostalgia.
